After downloading the installer, double-click it to start the installation and follow the instructions.
The setup installs 32-bit executables on 32-bit Windows and 64-bit executables on 64-bit Windows.
On first install, SEDIT and S/REXX are enabled for a 30-day trial.
After the trial, without a license key, SEDIT continues as SEDIT Lite (up to 4 files of 150 lines, FLIST limited to 40 files, S/REXX macros up to 6000 bytes).
When installing a maintenance release, please uninstall the previous version first. If you modified files in the SEDIT installation directory (the profile.sedit file, for example), save a copy first: a new installation overwrites them.
What’s new
- SEDIT 5.01 and S/REXX 3.01 add support for symbolic links on Windows.
- SEDIT 5.04 and S/REXX 3.04 add support for UNC names (file names such as
\\server\share\file_path) on Windows. - SEDIT 5.06 and S/REXX 3.06 can be locked to the computer name rather than to the CPU ID.
- SEDIT 5.08 and S/REXX 3.08 correct problems with Windows 10 version 1909.
- SEDIT 5.09 and S/REXX 3.09 support paths longer than the 260-character limit, up to 32,767 characters.
- SEDIT 5.10 and S/REXX 3.10 use an enhanced regular expression library. On first use, SEDIT installs a copy of the default profile in the
C:\Users\{CurrentUserName}\AppData\Local\SEDITdirectory and adds a new Session menu, to save and restore the current editing session. - SEDIT 5.20 and S/REXX 3.20 are faster, especially the Windows S/REXX debugger; the license server can be locked to its host name, so its operating system or hardware can be updated without a new key; UNDO remembers the cursor position.
- SEDIT 5.30 and S/REXX 3.31 add Windows Help and support for the S/REXX Debugger 4.0. The files in the ring can be reordered by drag and drop; the iconbar icons are larger, for high-DPI monitors; FLIST supports selections and copy/paste. The XEDIT command opens a file locked by another program through a temporary Volume Shadow Copy snapshot. New or enhanced commands: EXTRACT /SCREEN/, BACKUP with up to 3 parameters, and VERIFY -1, which adjusts the displayed length when the prefix field grows beyond 5 characters (files of more than 99,999 lines). The TREE command is no longer supported.
SEDIT for Dyalog APL is no longer supported.
