The Linux binaries are in the file:
tarfile.linux64-{release}.gz (includes the SEDIT and S/REXX PDF documentation)
Create a directory for SEDIT and S/REXX and extract the file into it. For example:
$ mkdir /home/{username}/xed
$ cd /home/{username}/xed
$ tar -zxvf tarfile.linux64-{release}.gz
Install the required libraries with the command:
$ sudo dnf install openmotif libXext libXt libX11 pcre -y
Without a key, SEDIT runs as SEDIT Lite (up to 4 files of 150 lines, FLIST limited to 40 files, S/REXX macros up to 6000 bytes). For the full version, request a license key through the Contact page, giving the host name of your computer and your e-mail address. A free one-month trial key of the full version is available on request.
To install the key(s), type:
$ ./install sedit
$ ./install rexx
and follow the instructions.
Then start SEDIT with the command:
$ ./xed

What’s new
- SEDIT 5.30 and S/REXX 3.31 support the MENUBAR command on Linux, in the file editor and in FLIST, and handle fonts better. The S/REXX DY_OPEN function uses the desktop file dialog (Zenity) when it is installed, and S/REXX’s own file box otherwise. The files in the ring can be reordered by drag and drop; the iconbar icons are larger, for high-DPI monitors; FLIST supports selections and copy/paste; the S/REXX Debugger 4.0 is supported. New or enhanced commands: EXTRACT /SCREEN/, BACKUP with up to 3 parameters, and VERIFY -1, which adjusts the displayed length when the prefix field grows beyond 5 characters (files of more than 99,999 lines). The TREE command and APL editing are no longer supported.
