Introduction to SEDIT

XEDIT and PDF with a GUI

As you can see from the above image, SEDIT presents a very familiar face for experienced XEDIT and PDF users. In fact, SEDIT is more than a pretty face. It leverages the familiar characteristics and linear cursor behavior of IBM mainframe editors with extensions from other editors and careful integration in the UNIX(tm) environment to provide a powerful text editor for UNIX. SEDIT's features will appeal to experienced XEDIT, ISPF/PDF, and KEDIT (from Mansfield Software for PC/DOS) users looking for the comfort of an old shoe in a new environment. SEDIT will also appeal to many users disatisfied with the aberrations of UNIX editors inherited from the historical character terminal environment.

These pages are intended to introduce SEDIT features to illustrate why SEDIT may be the UNIX editing solution you have been yearning for. To really understand and appreciate SEDIT's integration of XEDIT and PDF function into the UNIX environment, we encourage you to download SEDIT for UNIX, for LINUX, or for Windows and give it a test drive in your own environment.

About this Overview

We have captured a number of SEDIT screen images and included them to illustrate points. We recognize that many WWW users have limited Internet connectivity bandwidth and have prepared most of the .GIF files in two sizes (smaller and larger). We either offer two hot-links characterized by image file size or the smaller image itself will be a hot-link to the larger alternative. The variation will be in detail, SEDIT screen size or inclusion of color. It will be difficult for you to appreciate SEDIT without viewing the images so we would suggest that you enable by your WWW browser to automatically include images.

Leveraging the Environment

SEDIT includes a number of integrated TOOLs and features which extend the usability of the UNIX and Windows environments. The images associated with this section also serve to illustrate the basic appearance of SEDIT.

Other Interesting Features

In Character Mode

SEDIT will operate in character mode on the system console or using a dumb ASCII terminal. It has the ability to learn the keyboard layout from any ASCII terminal. In this mode of operation, SEDIT is comparible to XEDIT operating via TN3270 to a remote IBM VM/CMS host.
